In the midst of hard times, a mentor’s care and consistency means more than you might think.
A student in Mary Lu’s 6th‑grade group at River Valley Middle School was recently admitted to a mental health clinic. Fortunately, Mary Lu had met the student’s grandmother at her 5th‑grade graduation last year—and kept her number.
When Mary Lu learned what was happening, she reached out right away, sending a card and letting the family know she cared.
During a short break from the clinic, the student asked her grandmother if they could call Mary Lu. She wanted to share that she was keeping up with school and enjoying time with her family. Hearing her joy was a powerful reminder of how deeply consistent relationships matter.
