The science of resilience is studying why some kids manage life’s adversity better than others. In this short video from Harvard University, you can learn more about what we at Hope Collaborative believe is true. We believe investing in a child’s today will bring them a brighter future for themselves and our community.
What is Resilience? Is it an inherent trait or a learned skill? As you will see, resilience is a developed and essential ability that helps us navigate life’s challenges. Children suffering from trauma or other inadequacies often don’t develop resistance as well as required to be successful.
What are common Causes of Childhood Trauma?
• Mental illness: Parents and relatives’ mental illness in the home.
• Poverty: Poverty can provide food and other insecurities.
• Poor Schools: Lack of proper education and guidance.
• Domestic Abuse: Violence or sexual violence in-home or in one’s community.
Linda C. Mayers M.D., Yale Child Study Center Resilience is that ability or set of capacities for positive adaptation allowing you to keep in balance.
Building resilience in our kids and community is a daily goal at Hope Collaborative. It is what drives us. Please donate or volunteer today if you agree and want to support and contribute to our work.
